Preserved fruit has a long tradition in Southern Portugal. It is elevated to an art form in the Elvas region, which has famously sweet and juicy plums, peaches, figs and apricots that have graced graced many a conoisseur’s table. Agatha Christie was a fan, Tchaikovsky probably too; and if they are good enough for them, they are good enough for The Gold Rush.
We also love the variety of fig and almond sweets available in the Algarve, and stock some of the best.
